Fairly Traded Coffee Celebration

Lifting Your Cup: Celebrate a Successful Coffee Challenge

We did it! Together, we exceeded our goal of purchasing 90 tons of 100 percent fairly traded coffee. In fact, we surpassed our goal by nine tons. "Pour Justice to the Brim: The 90-Ton Challenge" was unveiled in the October 2003 issue of Lutheran Woman Today. In the previous year, Lutherans purchased more than 45 tons of 100 percent fairly traded coffee through the Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project. Women of the ELCA, Lutheran World Relief, and Equal Exchange joined in challenging Lutheran women to double that amount in a similar twelve-month period.

A coffee litany
In December, Lutheran Woman Today will recap the 90-Ton Challenge in a six-page set of articles. One special feature in that issue is a coffee litany written by Rev. Barbara Lund, program director for East Asia in the ELCA Division for Global Mission, to celebrate the successful results of the Challenge.

Women of the ELCA has made this litany available on their website – and can be downloaded by clicking HERE. - so that we can celebrate together.
