Costa Rica, Our Companion Synod
by Judy Schlegel
Lord Jesus, in this season of Lent we
again share in your passion, and we know that you experience our
struggles. You also share in the struggles of the people of Costa Rica.
As we approach Easter, we call upon you to bring resurrection to the
people of Costa Rica. May they find new life and new hope in you. We ask
this in Jesus' name. Amen.
May
Lord God, we see spring bursting forth
everywhere in grass, fields and forests.
We pray that new life will spring forth in the people of Costa
Rica. In the name of our
resurrected Lord. Amen.
June
Almighty God, we
have been praying for the people of Costa Rica for several months, and
we continue to ask you to bless them.
It is in your power to change their lives, and we ask that you do
so for these your children. In
Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
July
Eternal God, we
thank you for your gifts to the people of Costa Rica and ask that you
continue to bless them. May
they feel your presence in all their activities so that they can move
forward with joy and hope. In
Christ’s name. Amen.
August
Holy God, you are
mighty, and we are weak. Give
us the courage and compassion to reach out to our brothers and sisters
in Costa Rica and enable them to move forward with their lives in
productive ways. In
Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
The
Hungry
by Marie Pilisila
Almighty
and gracious God,
We
pray for grateful hearts, for humble awareness of our abundance amid all
the world's poverty and pain.
We
pray for courage to give generously of our resources - our imaginations,
our time and abilities, our material wealth.
We
pray for the strength to reject the rationalizations which lead to
indifference and silence in this climate of entitlement and insatiable
desire.
We
pray for confident hope, in the presence of such overwhelming needs, to
know that each offering makes a welcome difference to others, and to
You.
We
pray for lifestyles of justice and mercy, living more simply, being
advocates for those more needful than we, supporting fair trade, being
compassionate in our role as citizens.
We
pray for your promised forgiveness for the fears, the selfishness, the
thoughtlessness, the suspicions, the self-righteousness which hinder our
loving service, and then we pray for grateful and greater obedience to
mark our thanksgiving.
We
pray all these things in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen!!!
