Mission: Community
Goal: To enable each woman
to value herself and others as disciples created in God's image and
redeemed through Jesus Christ; and to build up and celebrate
relationships that are global, diverse, and interdependent.
What does this mean?
Mission: Community is about relationships among women of faith.
These relationships are disciple relationships, which include God,
family, other persons of faith, the global community, women of the ELCA
units, and the unchurched.
With those things in mind, the
NC SWO Mission: Community Committee calls your attention to the
following items:
|
|
Earth Day 2007
|
|
Earth Day is a name used for two different
observances annually in the spring, both intended to inspire awareness
of and appreciation for the Earth's fragile environment. The original
equinoctial Earth Day is celebrated in most countries on the vernal
equinox (around March 21) to mark the moment that spring begins in the
Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. In the United
States, however, Earth Day is often celebrated on April 22. Make every
day Earth Day by encouraging your family, your congregational unit, and
your congregation to appreciate and take care of the Earth.

Begin now to collect items for
the NC SWO Gathering
|
|
Each year, we collect needed items for the
children, families, and refugees served by Lutheran Family Services in
the Carolinas (LFS). We bring these items to the NC Women of the ELCA
Gathering, held annually at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Items do not need to be packaged in kits or in
any specific combinations. If, however, you would like to package your
collection, container suggestions are provided below. LFS also suggests
including a Bible with each kit. Their favorite is the CEV Denim Bible.
for list of kit items.

|
A representative from Lutheran Family Services in
the Carolinas will be presenting an Awareness Session called "Walking
and Working Together: the Role of Partnerships in Women's
Empowerment." Don't miss it!

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
MONTH
APRIL IS ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH
APRIL 7 IS WORLD HEALTH DAY
APRIL 22 IS EARTH DAY
MAY 2 IS RACHEL'S DAY
|
|
These observances have something in common. They
all indicate that God's children and God's creation have been, and are
being, abused. But they also remind us that positive efforts are being
made which have to do with teaching respect, love, and care for God's
children and God's creation.
Suggestion: Use the April observations
throughout the month of April to lead into your Rachel's Day observance.
Websites are listed below where information on these observances can be
found.
